What Is Presenting? You Might Be Surprised.
Just how do you get your prospects to accept your ideas, join your company, or try your products? Read this MLM training article and learn the basics of presenting so that your prospects will join your company and try your product or service.
The definition of present is to bring before the public. The word present comes to us from Latin, which means to show.
That’s the dictionary definition, but what is presenting as it relates to your MLM business? Presenting at its very core is taking a concept or idea that is in your head and conveying it to another person or persons so that they adopt the same or similar view on that concept or idea.
Let me give you an example or two. I would like you to picture a tennis ball. It’s bright green in color and fuzzy. It bounces if you throw it on the ground or against the wall. Do you get a picture of this tennis ball? Good – that’s presentation. If I put a thought into your head and cause you to think about it, that’s presentation.
If I took a picture of a tennis ball and showed it to you – that’s presentation. So now when you’re walking through an airport or driving down the highway and see pictures of things, you know that all of these pictures are presentations.
If I handed you a tennis ball and said, “Here hold this”, that’s also presentation. When I go to the grocery store on a Saturday morning, there are people who will give me a cracker with some kind of spread on it and ask me to taste it. That is presentation.
Now, presentation is not limited to physical things. I could present to you my views on the subject of integrity – that’s not a physical object. It’s just a thought in my head that I convey to yours.
Here’s the key MLM training point you need to understand: A presenter’s aim or intention is to get the person they’re presenting to, to agree and adopt the same view or a similar view. This is true whether you’re presenting to your employer, your mother, your spouse or your dog!
This is also true throughout any medium. Meaning, whether you’re presenting by speech or by written words it’s still the same concept, you desire another or others to adopt your same view.
So don’t think for a second that the media is “reporting” the news. They’re “presenting” the news – in the way they want people to view it.
So presentation means “to show ” It is conveying an item in your head to another. And this is an important MLM training tip to remember otherwise you could be presenting incorrectly and prospects won’t understand what you are trying to convey.
I will explain just that on next week’s conference call. Do join me.

Tim,
We’ve been working with Professional Inviter. One of the things I’ve noticed is that if we don’t do your Brilliant Compensation first and deal with those questions and objections. . .and for them to have this education, then when we present our Business Presentation, the objections are a mix about the products, the business and the industry. It feels that there is an advantage to do the Inviting first, then move on to the Presentation. It is like having a shared platform to stand on to do the Business Presentation that has the network marketing issue settled. It seems like it will simplify things.
Listening to tonight’s call, now I’m thinking we are suppose to choose between whether to proceed with Inviting or go to Presentation directly. I’m a bit confused about this. Is there any advantage to doing the business presentation when you haven’t addressed the industry first? Except for people who have
already been in the industry but are positive about it? Thanks so much. I get completely what you said about doing this so it is not dependent on you!

Hi Tim,
I just listened to your conference call. What an excellent call! I loved how you talked about tools vs learning how to present and how you said that although you believe in the value of tools, you also believe that every net worker needs to learn how to do a presentation.
The problem is that in our quest to become “duplicate-able” we have forgotten that we also need to learn to master the knowledge and skills necessary to be a successful distributor long term in our network marketing business.
One of my up-line distributors recently sent out a telephone blast maybe a few weeks ago and he was talking about the skills that are necessary to be a leader in this industry. One of the things that he said was becoming a good presenter. In particular he encouraged some of the emerging leaders to start doing some presentations for their distributors instead of always using the DVDs and the tools to do the presentation.
There was something else that you said on the call that was key. You said there are times where a tool can do a better job then you can if you presented and there are times where your presentation can do a better job than the tool. This is so true and I’ve seen this many times in my own business.
Excellent conference call overall!

Thanks Tim. First time I’ve listened to one of your presentations ( Brilliant Compensation). Very instructive. Especially the bit about the “fake it till you make it brigade”. I’ll be listening again and learning.
Many thanks,
Richard

What changes in the marketplace have you seen in the last 10 years? Is network marketing easier today than ten years ago or is it more difficult.

Tim,
I love your stuff. Much of what I’m doing is web generated, lead generated, etc. Any tips for closing a presentation on the phone? I get them to watch the video, but the face to face techniques to encourage them to decide feel uncomfortable on the phone.
All the best
Rick
