Ever Feel You Can’t Succeed?
Leinad sent me the question below. Along with his question he shared personal information that I didn’t include here. However, I did address those items in my answer.
Hi Tim, I don’t feel I can succeed in MLM, but I KNOW it is the best business model ever. Whassup??
Hello Leinad,
Thank you for your question – I do understand your “feeling that you can’t succeed” as I’ve had it in many things in the past – including MLM.
Personally, I feel the ONLY hard thing in MLM is continuing to work/learn the business in the face of zero results. But focusing on “it’s hard” is really skirting around the real issue.
When a person substitutes the ACTIVITIES that yield results with THEORIES of why they’re failing, they can spiral out of control and pretty soon start blaming their prospect, upline, downline, company, God, the devil and their parents for their lack of results in MLM. None of these are the real reason.
There are simply a series or list of things you need to be able to DO in order to succeed. If someone is failing they simply still have one or more things they don’t know how to do yet. That’s whassup! LEINAD, STOP BLAMING IT ON ANYTHING ELSE. IT’S NOT ANYTHING ELSE!
Here are my basic “thoughts” on whether a person can succeed or not. Anyone and everyone CAN succeed. However, if a person thinks they can’t succeed in MLM, I am powerless as a trainer. Therefore, you must knock off this crazy thinking.
With every person I bring into the business I have a view of them needing to know a certain number of things. Many times I’ve viewed it as them starting at the caboose of a train and working their way through each car until they’re at the front driving the train.
This little analogy is simply a visual I have that at one end you have the person starting (caboose) and at the other end you have the person knowing, doing and succeeding in the business (front car of train).
For this to happen, everything in between the caboose and the engineer’s car must be known…but not just known… it has to be demonstrably known. That is to say, they must be able to do each step successfully.
The steps are taken straight off Pocket Tracker.
Therefore, if I were training you I would ask you to DEMONSTRATE the following.
- Can you show me your goals and plan? If you can’t show me this, do it.
- Can you show me your lead source(s)? If you can’t show me this, do it.
- Can you get and service a customer? If you can’t show me this, we will locate which part(s) you can’t do. The parts are:
- Can you GREET the prospect?
- Can you QUALIFY the prospect?
- Can you INVITE the prospect?
- Can you CLOSE your prospect to ACTION?
- Can you HANDLE THE PROSPECT’S OBJECTIONS successfully?
- Can you FOLLOW UP and FOLLOW THROUGH with the prospect?
Whatever you can’t demonstrate successfully, you need to work on that until you can as this is the REAL reason you’re not succeeding.
- Can you get and train a distributor? If you can’t show me this, we will do the above again.
Leinad, the solution to your thoughts of “I can’t succeed in MLM” are those items above. That’s it. Locate what you can’t do and LEARN it. Get the silly wrong reasons out of your head.
I hope this helps you and any other person with these thoughts.
Thank you for having the guts to share with me all that you did – you’re a giant!
