MLM Training – How To Qualify Warm Prospects
Approaching friends and family about your network marketing business can be a little intimidating at first. You want to make money in MLM, but you don’t want to come across as a pushy salesperson - especially when it comes to prospecting people you love and trust.
My MLM tip for you today is this: When approaching your warm market about your network marketing business, your primary objective is to gather as much information as you can in order to find out WHY they might be willing to look at a business opportunity.
With some prospects you may have to spend time digging a little deeper until you get the information you are looking for. Others may come straight out and tell you exactly why they want to look at a MLM business, and others still may tell you things that they think you want to hear. It takes practice but you will know when they’re just feeding you a line and when they’re handing you that gold nugget of information that tells you why they are looking to you to help them move forward.
Whether you use tried and tested pre-planned MLM scripts to qualify prospects or not, I’m talking about when you get that one gold nugget, which is their primary reason for looking, you should be able to hold their interest throughout. Every time you state it, every time you refer to it, you get them interested again and again and again.
Let’s say for example that you just making phone calls to family & friends to work on your downline building and a warm prospect tells you quite clearly they’re interested in a home-based business because they wanted to stay home with their brand new child. What a gold nugget that is – they used the phrase “brand new child”. So every time you now refer to - “So let’s figure out how we can get you to stay home with your brand new child.” Every time you say that, that’s the nugget that just keeps getting exposed every single time, and you will hold their attention, and they will follow you. So that’s what you’re ultimately trying to find.
When you are qualifying prospects, focus on them and not on your MLM business or your product. There will always be plenty of time for that later if you do your job well in qualifying them. When you genuinely listen to what your prospects are saying, you will hear what they want to tell you instead of waiting for a long enough pause so that you can start speaking again. And, believe me, more often than not they will want to tell you. After all they are looking for someone to help them.
Another network marketing tip is this: Take every opportunity to dig even deeper with your prospects. Don’t just take the answer you get. You can use that answer to ask further open questions to find out if there is anything else buried inside of that answer that you could also use. Taking the example above you may discover that one income is not enough and a huge part of the second income would be used in paying for someone to look after the new child. The financial situation may not be the primary driver. What if this particular prospect really cannot face the emotional separation of going back to work and leaving the care of the new child to someone else?
Can you see the tremendous value this additional information provides? This prospect is practically doing your job for you.
Qualifying warm prospects for your MLM business should be simpler than others. The types of questions that you ask are more straightforward because you’ve already built a good rapport with them. My standard line with all the warm prospects, and I do it very frequently is, “Have you ever thought of looking at a business outside of law or accounting or construction work?” or whatever it is that they do at the moment. So I suggest that you master that one because I can’t say that it specifically is worth a million bucks, but I have made millions using that one specific line. It’s brought me a huge amount of MLM success.
Another very successful question is “Would you have reasons?”
“Would you have reasons to look at a business outside of law?” or outside of whatever it is that they do. It just spurs them to name a couple of things. It is almost inevitable that your warm prospects cannot resist and are more than willing to share those reasons. Don’t be surprised when you discover that, more often than not, these reasons are not financial. “Oh well gosh, yeah. You know, I’d love to not have to sit in traffic. You know what? Gosh, I’d love to be able to live in another area. I don’t necessarily like the winter here,” or whatever their reasons are.
